How to install an eSIM using a QR Code on Xiaomi Device

In this guide, you have a step-by-step walkthrough you can take when installing an eSIM on your Xiaomi Device.

Installing an eSIM using a QR Code.

Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:

  • A strong internet connection - Ideally you will need to either be connected to Wi-fi or have a good 4G signal.
  • An eSIM compatible device - if you are unsure, a list of compatible devices is listed here: List of compatible devices
  • The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure of whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is "locked/unlocked" Locked/unlocked devices

1. Go into Settings.

2. Go into "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Scroll down until you see the option "Manage eSIM" and click on it.

4. Tap "Add mobile plan"

5. Scan the "QR Code" given through your eSIMs bundles account.

6. Click Add > Wait for the eSIM to be installed. > Click "Got it"

Note: This may take up to 10 minutes, please do NOT close this, or the installation will stop. 

7. In "SIM cards & mobile network" > Scroll down until you see the option "Advanced settings"

8. Click on "Data roaming" as shown in the photo below.

Make sure you enable Roaming as shown in the photos below.

How to install an eSIM Manually on a Xiaomi Device

In this guide, you have a step-by-step walkthrough you can take when installing an eSIM on your Xiaomi Device.

Installing an eSIM Manually

Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:

  • A strong internet connection - Ideally you will need to either be connected to Wi-fi or have a good 4G signal.
  • An eSIM compatible device - if you are unsure, a list of compatible devices is listed here: List of compatible devices
  • The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure of whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is "locked/unlocked" Locked/unlocked devices

1. Go to Settings.

2. Go into "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Scroll down until you see the option "Manage eSIM" > Click on it.

4. Select "Add mobile plan"

5. Select "Add manually instead"

6. To be able to Manually install the eSIM, you will need your "SM-DP + Address" and "Activation code". You must enter in the format of "1$Insert SM-DP + address here$ followed by the activation code, eg JQ-1MU12G-CJN26F. The code should end up looking something similar to the photo below.

7. Once you have typed this in, press "OK" > Click "Add" > This will enable the installation.

Note: This may take up to 10 minutes, please do NOT close this, or the installation will stop. 

8. Ensure that "Data Roaming" is Enabled/ON.

If your Data Roaming has a "blue toggle bar" then it is enabled.
Note: Your eSIM will not work without you having "Data Roaming" enabled.

How to uninstall an eSIM from your Xiaomi Device

If you are looking to uninstall your eSIM from your Xiaomi device, follow the steps below:

Before starting the uninstall process, ensure that you have a stable internet connection. Ideally connect to the local Wifi or use a good 4G connection.

Note: You can also temporarily disable an eSIM if you intend to use it again.
Deactivating or disabling an eSIM will not extend the validity of the eSIM.

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click into "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Scroll down until you see the option "Manage eSIM"

4. Click on the eSIM you want to remove (in this example, we are removing "HAT_1.0").

5. Click on "Delete mobile plan"

6. Read the prompt and wait for it to allow you to press the "Delete" button > Press Delete.

7. Wait for the eSIM to be deleted.

Once this is done, your eSIM should have been successfully removed.

Turning Data Roaming on / off on Xiaomi Devices

It is essential that "Data Roaming" is enabled in order to use the eSIM. 

You can turn "On" and "Off" your Data Roaming in your settings.

Turning on your Data Roaming will allow any eSIM to work with your device.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click on "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Scroll down until you see the option "Advanced settings"

4. Tap "Data roaming"

5. Simply press the slider.

Accept the prompt that has appeared. If the slider is coloured blue then Data Roaming is activated. If it is white, Data Roaming is deactivated.

Manual Network Selection on Xiaomi Devices

If you are struggling with a poor-quality connection on a particular network, we advise you manually search and select a different network. You will only be able to get an internet connection on the network(s) we offer a service on.

To look at this, follow these steps:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Go into "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Click on the eSIM you want to change the network for (in this example, we are using "3 AT").

4. Click into "Preferred network type"

5. Deselect "Automatically select network" > Accept the prompt that appears.

6. Wait for it to search all networks within the area > Select the network you want to use.

7. You are now connected to your desired network.

Identify Device Model on Xiaomi Devices

Providing your Xiaomi device is newer or the same as the Xiaomi 12T Pro, then your phone should be compatible with an eSIM.

If you would like to check this, you can do so by following these steps:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click the option "About phone"

3. On this screen, you can see the "Device name"

 

Locate ICCID (eSIM Serial Number) on Xiaomi Devices

It may be necessary to identify the unique ICCID associated with your eSIM. This article walks you through the steps on a Xiaomi device.

 

1. Go into Settings.

2. Go into "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Scroll down until you see the option "Manage eSIM" > Click into it.

4. Click on the eSIM you would like to find the ICCID for.

5. Your ICCID will be displayed as shown in the photo below.

Set up an APN on Xiaomi Devices

All our eSIM's have an automatic Access Point Name (APN) so manual programming is not necessary. 

However, if you do want to check or manually configure the APN, follow the steps below:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Go into "SIM cards & mobile networks"

3. Click on the SIM you want to check the APN for. (In this example, we are using "3 AT")

4. Click on the option "Access point names"

5. From here you can see the name of the APN which should be under the name of "drei.at".If it does not show the name, then go to step 6.

6. Click on the APN > You can now manually rename it to "drei.at" in the Name section, leave the other fields blank.
