Set up an APN on Samsung Devices

All our eSIM's have an automatic Access Point Name (APN) so manual programming is not necessary. 

However, if you do want to check or manually configure the APN, follow the steps below:

1. Go into Settings > "Connections".

2. Go into "Mobile Networks".

3. Click on the "Access Point Names".

4. Once you have clicked on the APN > Click on the one that shows the name "drei.at". If it does not show the name, then go to step 5.

5. Once you have gone into the selected APN, you can manually rename it to "drei.at".

 

How to switch your eSIM to a new Android

 

If you have recently upgraded your phone and your eSIM has not transferred over, here is a step-by-step guide to take you through how to transfer it.

  1. First, you need to make sure that your new Android device is eSIM-compatible and supports the eSIM feature. You can usually find this information in the device's specifications or manual.
  2. Contact your current carrier to obtain a QR code or activation code for your eSIM. This code is required to activate the eSIM on your new device.
  3. On your new Android device, go to Settings and then look for the option to add a new cellular plan or to activate the eSIM. The specific location of this option may vary depending on the device and the version of Android.
  4. Use your device's camera to scan the QR code or enter the activation code provided by your carrier.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the activation process.
  6. Once the activation process is complete, your new device should be ready to use with your eSIM. You may need to restart your device or wait for a few minutes for the new eSIM to be fully activated.

How to install an eSIM using a QR Code on Samsung Devices

Installing an eSIM using a QR Code.

Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:

  • A strong internet connection - Ideally, you will need to be connected to Wi-fi or have a good 4G signal.
  • An eSIM compatible device - If you are unsure, here's a list of compatible devices: List of compatible devices
  • The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is "locked/unlocked": Locked/unlocked devices
1. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM
2. Scan the "QR Code" given through your eSIMs  bundles account.
3. When prompted, tap "Add" > Allow up to 10 minutes for the eSIM to activate.
Note: This may take up to 10 minutes, please do NOT close this, or the installation will stop. 

3. Leave "Calls" and "Messages" set to your original primary SIM

4. Go back into Settings > "Connections" > Select "SIM manager" > Tap which SIM you want to use for Data.

 
5. Go to "Settings" > Connections > Mobile networks > Ensure "Data roaming" is turned on.

How to install an eSIM Manually on a Samsung Device

In this guide, you have a step-by-step walkthrough you can take when installing an eSIM on your Samsung Device.

Installing an eSIM Manually.

Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:

  • The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is "locked/unlocked": Locked/unlocked devices
1. Go into Settings.
2. Go into "Connections".
3. Go into "Sim Manager" > Add eSIM.
 
4. Select the option "Scan QR code from service provider" > "Enter Activation Code".
 
5. To be able to Manually install the eSIM, you will need your "SM-DP + Address" and "Activation code". You must enter in the format of "1$Insert SM-DP + address here$ followed by the activation code, eg JQ-1MU12G-CJN26F. The code should end up looking something similar to the photo below.
 
6. Click "add" and it will enable the installation process.
Note: This may take up to 10 minutes, please do NOT close this, or the installation will stop. 
7. Once this has been completed, go back into "Connections" Mobile Networks.
8. Ensure that "Data Roaming" is Enabled/ON.
If your Data Roaming has a "blue toggle bar" then it is enabled.
Note: Your eSIM will not work without you having "Data Roaming" enabled.

How to uninstall an eSIM from your Samsung Device

If you are looking to uninstall your eSIM from your Samsung device, follow the steps below:

Before starting the uninstall process, ensure that you have a stable internet connection. Ideally connect to the local Wifi or use a good 4G connection.

Note: You can also temporarily disable an eSIM if you intend to use it again.
Deactivating or disabling an eSIM will not extend the validity of the eSIM.

1. On your device, go into Settings.

2. Click on "Connections".

3. Click "SIM Manager".

4. Click on the eSIM you want to remove from the list.

5. Click "Remove".

At this stage, your device will ask for your Passcode or Face ID for security purposes.

6. Once you have confirmed your Passcode or Face ID, you can click the "Remove" button again and it will remove the eSIM from your device.

Turning Data Roaming on / off on Samsung Device

It is essential that "Data Roaming" is enabled in order to use the eSIM. 

You can turn "On" and "Off" your Data Roaming in your settings.

Turning on your Data Roaming will allow any eSIM to work with your device.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. First, open your Settings.

2. Select "Connections"

3. Select "Mobile Network"

4. Make sure "Data Roaming" Is enabled.

To do this, click the bar and make sure the toggle is blue.

Manual Network Selection on Samsung Devices

If you are struggling with a poor-quality connection on a particular network, we advise you manually search and select a different network. You will only be able to get an internet connection on the network(s) we offer a service on.

To look at this, follow these steps:

1. Go into your Settings.

2. Click "Connections".

3. Select "Mobile Networks".

4. Once you are on Mobile Networks, select "Network Operators".

5. Disable "Select Automatically" > Choose the Network you wish to connect to.

6. You are now connected to the selected network.

How To Check If My Device Is Unlocked: Samsung

If you would like to use an eSIM on your device, you will need to check if your device is compatible. 

The guide below, shows you how to check if your device is unlocked on Samsung.

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click on "Connections".

3. Go into "Mobile Networks" > "Network Operators".

4. Deselect "Select Automatically".

5. If your device is unlocked, then a list of Networks will pop up in the form of a list as shown below.

If you do not see the list, then your device may be locked to a specific network. You will need to contact your mobile carrier to get your device unlocked. If your device was recently unlocked, you may have to wait for the eSIM support to become available as your carrier might disable it for a period of time for security reasons.

Identify Device Model on Samsung Device

Providing that your Samsung device is newer or the same as the Samsung Galaxy S20, your phone should be compatible with an eSIM.

If you would like to check this, you can do so by following these steps:

1. Go into your settings and scroll down to the bottom where you will see the section "About phone".

2. Click on the "About phone" section

3. You should be able to see your Device Model here.

Locate ICCID (eSIM Serial Number) on Samsung Devices

It may be necessary to identify the unique ICCID associated with your eSIM. This article walks you through the steps on a Samsung device.

 

1. Go to Settings > "Connections" > tap "Sim Manager".

2. Click on the eSIM you want to know the ICCID for.

Click on "More Information" > You will then see the ICCID for the selected eSIM.
