Set up an APN on a Huawei Device

All of our eSIM's have an automatic Access Point Name (APN) so manual programming is not necessary. 

However, if you do want to check or manually configure the APN, follow the steps below:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Go into "Mobile Network"

3. Click on "Mobile Data"

4. Once in Mobile Data, scroll down until you see the option "Access Point Names (APNs)" and click on it.

5. From here you can see the name of the APN which should be under the name of "drei.at", if you do not see this, then go to step 6.

6. Click on the APN that is shown in your list > you can now manually rename it to "drei.at", leave the other fields blank.

How to Install an eSIM using a QR Code on Huawei Devices

In this guide, you have a step-by-step walkthrough you can take when installing an eSIM on your Huawei Device.

Installing an eSIM using a QR Code.

Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:

  • A strong internet connection - Ideally, you will need to be connected to Wi-fi or have a good 4G signal.
  • An eSIM compatible device - If you are unsure, here's a list of compatible devices: List of compatible devices
  • The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is "locked/unlocked" Locked/unlocked devices

Do not forget to turn on "Data Roaming" once the installation is complete.

1. Go into your Settings.

2. Click on "Mobile Network".

3. Click on "Sim Management" > Click "Add eSIM".

4. Click on the cross in the bottom left of the screen (Add eSIM) > Scan the "QR Code" given through your eSIMs  bundles account.

5. Click "Add this eSIM" > Wait for the eSIM to download.

Note: This may take up to 10 minutes, please do NOT close this, or the installation will stop. 

6. Once completed, your eSIM should appear in the list. > Make sure the eSIM is enabled, otherwise the eSIM won't work.

Note: Once you have completed these steps, make sure your Data Roaming is "ON" as seen in the photos below, otherwise you will not be able to use the eSIM.

How to Install an eSIM Manually on a Huawei Device

 

In this guide, you have a step-by-step walkthrough you can take when installing an eSIM on your Huawei Device.

Installing an eSIM Manually

Before attempting to install the eSIM, there are three main things you will need:

  • The device isn't locked to one Mobile Network - If you are unsure whether or not your device is locked to a certain network, have a look at our article on how to check if your device is "locked/unlocked":  Locked/unlocked devices

Do not forget to turn on "Data Roaming" once the installation is complete.

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click onto "Mobile Networks" > Sim Management.

3. Click on an eSIM > Add eSIM.

4. Click "Enter Manually".

5. Type in the SM+DP Address as shown on the photo below (Top Row) followed by the Activation code which you can find on your Bundles account. 

You may leave the Confirmation Code field empty.

6. Click "Add this eSIM" > Wait for the eSIM to download.

Note: This may take up to 10 minutes, please do NOT close this, or the installation will stop. 

7. Once completed, your eSIM should appear in the list. > Make sure the eSIM is enabled, or the eSIM won't work.

Note: Once you have completed these steps, make sure your Data Roaming is "ON" as seen in the photos below, otherwise you will not be able to use the eSIM.

How to Uninstall an eSIM from Huawei Device

If you are looking to uninstall your eSIM from your Huawei device, follow the steps below:

Before starting the uninstall process, ensure that you have a stable internet connection. Ideally, connect to the local Wifi or use a good 4G connection.

Note: You can also temporarily disable an eSIM if you intend to use it again.
Deactivating or disabling an eSIM will not extend the validity of the eSIM.

1. Go to Settings.

2. Go into "Mobile Networks"

3. Click into. "SIM Management"

4. Select the eSIM you would like to remove from your device: in this example we are removing SIM 2.

5. Click on the "enabled" eSIM and disable it.

Note: You won't be able to remove the eSIM unless the eSIM is disabled.

6. Once this is done, Select the "DELETE" button which is shown at the bottom of the screen > Tick the box next to "I understand" and hit the "DELETE" button.

Once this is done, your eSIM should have been successfully removed, if you encounter any problems during this process please contact our support team at Support Team for Uninstalling eSIMS.

Turning Data Roaming on / off on Huawei Devices

It is essential that "Data Roaming" is enabled in order to use any eSIM. 

You can turn "On" and "Off" your Data Roaming in your settings.

Turning on your Data Roaming will allow any eSIM to work with your device.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click on "Mobile Network".

3. Tap "Mobile Data".

4. Scroll down until you see the toggle for "Data Roaming".

Make sure this is enabled in order for the eSIM to work.

If the toggle is "Blue" as shown in the second photo, then Data Roaming is enabled.

If the toggle is "White" as shown in the first photo, be sure to click it so it turns blue.

Manual Network Selection on a Huawei Device

If you are struggling with a poor-quality connection on a particular network, we advise you manually search and select a different network. You will only be able to get an internet connection on the network(s) we offer a service on.

To look at this, follow these steps:

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click on "Mobile Network".

3. Go into "Mobile data" > Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Network Provider".

4. Disable the "automatic" toggle so it turns white > this will show you a search message at the bottom of your screen.

5. Once the search is complete, you will see a list of providers that work in your current area, once chosen just click on the network and you will be connected.

Identify Device Model on Huawei Device

Providing your Huawei is newer or the same as the Huawei P40, your phone should be compatible with an eSIM.

If you would like to check this, you can do so by following these steps:

1. Go into Settings. > Scroll down until you see the option of "About Phone"

2. Click on "About Phone" > Your device model will be within the list.

Locate ICCID (eSIM Serial Number) on Huawei Devices

It may be necessary to identify the unique ICCID associated with your eSIM. This article walks you through the steps on a Huawei device.

 

1. Go into Settings.

2. Click on "Mobile Network".

3. Click into "Sim Management".

4. Select the eSIM you want to check the ICCID for. (in this example, we are using SIM 2)

5. In the SIM settings, click on the Enabled eSIM. > Your ICCID will be displayed as shown in the photo below.
